| ORANGE EXPRESS: SPRING EDITION |
 |
Team Veloworx Racing is pleased to provide you
with the Spring Edition of the Orange Express. The season is
well underway and the results are accumulating, including 16
wins so far! In this edition, we will profile for you two of
our star younger riders: Sergio Hernandez and Catherine "Cat"
Fiedler. Plus, new member Josh Wiggins shares his perspective
on why he chose Team Veloworx Racing over the many other clubs
in our area. Thanks for reading!
Rider Profile: Sergio "The
Serge" Hernandez
Sergio Hernandez (U23) is in just his second full year as a
road cyclist, but you'd never know it by the wins and podium
places he’s already scored this season while earning his
upgrade from Category 3 to Category 2 along with his U23 teammates,
Wes Bredin and Erik Losak. Highlights of his season thus far
include a win at the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and
winning the sprinter’s jersey at the prestigious San Dimas
Stage Race, while finishing one-second behind one of his teammates
in the overall General Classification. The talented all-around
cyclist, who always seems to have a smile of his face, was into
BMX and freestyle cycling a few years ago, but was encouraged
to give road racing a try. We're thankful he did and now he's
hooked. Sergio is enjoying his first season with Team Veloworx
Racing. "My teammates are not just teammates; we're friends,
too. Plus, the club really supports us well." Like his
U23 teammates, Sergio is training hard for a multi-day stage
race in Mt. Hood, Oregon in early June as a final tune-up for
Espoirs (a fancy word for U23) Nationals in Salt Lake City,
Utah, which happen later that month.
Rider Profile: Catherine "Sweet 16"
Fiedler (U18)
Catherine Fiedler's strong performances on the track have garnered
the attention of many, including U.S. National Team coaches
who are already looking for the next Olympians. Besides dominating
most of the Women's (let alone Juniors) events she enters, Cat
hangs tough competing against the Category 1 & 2 men. Last
year, she was a silver medalist at the Junior Nationals in the
15-16 year-old Women’s Omnium and she’s already
taken wins at the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and the
Women’s Aussie Track Team Omnium. Earlier this month,
Cat headed to Houston to compete in the Nicole Reinhart Junior
Cycling for talented cyclists ages 10-18 from several countries.
The racing events for Junior Women 15-18 were the Sprint, Miss
& Out, 500m TT, 2 km TT, and 30 lap Points Race. In addition
to the races, there was a two-day camp held under the direction
of Tanya Dubnicoff, Head Coach National Cycling Center, Calgary,
Alberta, Canada, and a former World Sprint Champion. Look for
highlights from Cat's trip in our next update. [Cat's Race Report]
Total Domination - San Dimas Stage Race,
Cat. 3
Veloworx dominated this stage race all the way across the board...
The first stage was an uphill time trial consisting of 3.8 miles
twisting up Glendora Mountain road. The weather was gloomy cold
and soon degenerated into moderate rainfall interspersed with
outright downpours. Riders were released every 30 seconds and
due to the miserable conditions, no one really stuck around
for long before or afterwards. Read Complete Race
