20th May 2005 Update
Monex Newsletter Joe Martin Stage Race

Lynn has done it again, winning the Joe Martin Stage Race for the fourth consecutive year. This year she made an early move on the climb of the first stage and held onto a 2 and half minute lead crossing the line with a solo breakaway victory.

"I want to thank all my sponsors for this victory, thank you Monex, Time, and Four Winds for providing support so that I am able to continue to race. Thank you Rudy Project for the helmet which keeps me safe and the sunglasses to protect my eyes and give me superior visibility. Thank you CytoSport for keeping fed throughout the race, before, and after; the PreFormance and CytoMax kept me fueled for that 30 mile time trial and victory. Thank you Dan Plummer and Cane Creek -for Friday's stage I knew after the climb we would have a strong side and tail wind so I choose the Aeros 58 to sail into victory. Thank you Time for the shoes, pedals, and fastest (and probably lightest) bike in the world." - Lynn

The men had a successful weekend thank you to new sponsors Specialized, Cane Creek, and CytoSport. The men were having a difficult time in races like Sea Otter and Redlands due to a variety of mechanical problems. But with the new equipment the men showed success at Joe Martin.

After three days of a cross country drive from Santa Rosa to Arkansas our legs were a bit stiff, but Lynn took us on a good ride for four hours the day before the first stage. So for the first stage we were ready to race hard with new equipment. The first stage after the hill remained a field of fifty men which ended in a field sprint. Josh Goodwin was at the front and first into the last corner to lead out Emile, but a little too soon, though it was good preparation for the next day. Saturday morning the field diminished after each climb, a major group came into the finish for a field sprint. This day, Sterling was at the front pushing through the field to bring Emile to the front and VICTORY!? Emile won stage 2 and was close to taking the leaders jersey.

That afternoon was a hill climb time trial, Emile beat Lynn by 5 seconds, which left him in time to remain in the lead after the crit. Lynn won the time trial in the women’s field with help of her super light bike, excellent wheels, and a little good music in the Ipod.

Sunday’s crit was one of the most difficult in the country with a hill and steep climb into the finish, that and the wind split the group apart in a matter of laps. Emile and Glenn were able to hold on to finish.

This week the team is in Russellville, Arkansas for Tri-Peaks which starts on Friday.
